Raül Muñoz is Research Director and Head of the Packet Optical Networks & Services Research Unit at CTTC (Barcelona, Spain) and an OPTICA Fellow. His research focuses on optical networks, network automation, AI-driven networking, and communication-computing convergence. He has participated in more than 50 R&D projects, coordinating major European initiatives including FP7 EU-Japan STRAUSS and H2020 MSCA ONFIRE. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Optical Networking Systems Technical Committee (ONS) and is Associate Rapporteur of ITU-T SG15 Question 6. He is co-editor of the ITU-T TR.ION-aiDC Technical Report, editor of the Physical Layer Innovation chapter of the NetworldEurope SRIA 2027, and editor of the ETSI F6G White Paper. He has authored more than 120 journal papers and 440 conference publications, holds five patents, and has been recognized among the World's Top 2% Scientists since 2020.
