Dr Daniel King is a Principal Consultant at Old Dog Consulting and a Researcher at Lancaster University. With over 30 years of experience, he has helped lead vendor innovation and research initiatives in deploying and standardising Internet-scale packet optical infrastructure. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Lancaster University and has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, technology standards, and patents across the IETF, IRTF, ETSI, ITU-T and Linux Foundation.

Daniel has co-founded several innovative companies, including Aria Networks, Darwinian Neural Network Industries, and Applied Insilico, and previously held engineering roles at Bell Labs, Movaz Networks, Redback Networks, and Cisco. His current research explores the convergence of AI and advanced networking, including orchestration for federated AI, 3D optical communications, and 6G-ready transport networks.

Outside work, he is a Lake District Mountain Rescue Medic and IT officer, and the owner of The Wayside and Whisky Barn in the Western Lake District.
