Sustainability at Network X

Telecommunications underpin digital transformation - and are increasingly critical to building more sustainable, resilient economies worldwide.

Doing Business Better

At Network X, attendees come to do business - but also to understand how to do it better. As the industry evolves, long-term success depends not just on performance, but on building resilient, efficient, and responsible networks and business models. These priorities are no longer separate, they are interconnected.

Network X provides a forum to explore how sustainability is being integrated into real commercial decisions, from infrastructure investment to product strategy, helping organisations build more competitive, future-ready businesses.

Network X demonstrates how the telecom industry serves not just as infrastructure provider but as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable development worldwide.

Beyond the content, the event itself is managed with a commitment to minimising its environmental footprint. We urge exhibitors to consider moving away from disposable stands, through our Better Stands programme. We encourage all attendees to consider the sustainability of their participation, from their travel options to reducing waste. Your conscious decisions help us collectively advance toward a greener and more connected future.

Sustainability Initiatives

Better Stands

Disposable, single-use stands account for around 80% of total waste at events, which is why Informa is following the Better Stands programme. Network X is actively moving the industry toward reusable build, reducing waste, improving build safety, and lowering environmental impact at scale.

Energy Consumption

The event is hosted at VIECON, a carbon-neutral venue powered by 100% renewable hydroelectric energy and supported by on-site solar generation. Smart energy systems adjust heating and cooling in real time, helping reduce overall energy use and supporting its Austrian Eco-Label certification.

Water Consumption

Water refill stations are available across the venue to reduce single-use plastic. Sensors and aerators are installed to monitor and minimise water waste.

Food and Beverage

Catering prioritises sustainably sourced ingredients and reduces environmental impact through menu design. Red meat is not served, vegetarian options are available, and single-use waste is minimised through reusable or compostable serviceware.

Event Content

Network X speakers focus on how telecoms can reduce environmental impact while building more resilient and inclusive networks. Sessions address real trade-offs - balancing connectivity demand with energy use, infrastructure, and social responsibility - sharing practical approaches that deliver measurable outcomes.

Exhibition Floor

Printed signage is minimised in favour of digital formats. Event materials are designed for reuse, and badges are collected after the event to be reused or recycled—reducing single-use plastics and overall waste. Smaller elements such as badges are produced without plastic holders.

Wellbeing

Sustainability also includes attendee wellbeing. The event provides quiet spaces, accessible areas, and a range of networking environments. Locally sourced and vegetarian catering options are available throughout the event.

Emerging Leaders Initiative

Developing future leaders requires more than technical knowledge, it requires connections, mentorship, and visibility. By deliberately creating pathways for emerging talent, we can drive meaningful change and future-proof our industry. Read more about Emerging Leaders
