Driving Sustainable Innovation

in Telecom Infrastructure and Operations

Sustainability

Network X Paris is at the forefront of aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG9), which focuses on building resilient infrastructure, fostering inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and promoting innovation. This year’s event features discussions around exploring the latest advancements in green networks, energy efficiency, or non-terrestrial networks - critical technologies that will not only reduce environmental impact but also bridge the digital divide.

In recognition of excellence in sustainability, Network X Paris will feature two prestigious awards: the Outstanding Green Fiber Award, celebrating breakthroughs in eco-friendly fiber technology, and the Most Sustainable Network Project Award, honouring initiatives that exemplify sustainability in network deployment and operation.

Beyond the content, the event itself is managed with a commitment to minimising its environmental footprint. We urge vendors to consider moving away from disposable stand, through our Better Stands programme. We encourage all attendees to consider the sustainability of their participation, from their travel options to reducing waste. Your conscious decisions help us collectively advance toward a greener and more connected future.

While Network X is already a highly sustainable event, we are committed to ever improving our footprint. In 2024, we are launching the Better Stands programme, aimed at moving away from disposable stands which account for 80% of the event’s waste. Better Stands will not only vastly reduce waste, but also improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibitor experience at our events.

Join us at Network X Paris to engage with pioneering ideas and contribute to a sustainable digital transformation.

Sustainability Initiatives

Better Stands

Disposable, single-use stands account for around 80% of the total waste from our event, which is why we are launching the Better Stands programme. Better Stands is about moving away from the use of disposable stands to not only vastly reduce waste, but also improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibitor experience at our events. We believe that sustainable, reusable stand options offer a better way forward for the events industry.

Energy Consumption

This is a Carbon Neutral event, as it is powerd by renewable electricity. Throughout the event we use energy-efficient LED lighting and limit the use of heating/cooling and adjust it to reflect real-time needs.

Water Consumption

All attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and water stations will be available. Sensors and aerators are installed to minimise water consumption.

Food and Beverage

Network X provides food from sustainable and fresh ingredients from Paris. No red meat will be served during the event and both vegan and vegetarian options will be available. Water coolers are available throughout the show floor. Green waste will be disposed of at the composting station. Single-use plastic is reduced and replaced with reusable or compostable service wear.

Event Content

Network X speakers will be addressing the impact of telecoms on the environment, as well as the need for the industry to become more inclusive and diverse. More specifically our Headliners stage, partner workshops and conference tracks will address best practice for telcos looking to build an ESG strategy, as well as networks and services that have a positive impact on the environment (mobile/5G and fiber).

Exhibition Floor

We will continue to limit the use of printed signage onsite and will instead use digital screens where possible to minimise waste. No aisle carpet is used for the event and all carpet used for features and stands was 100% recycled. The lanyards given to all attendees are made of recycled materials and badges will come without plastic holders to avoid single-use plastics. We encourage all attendees to return their lanyard before leaving so we can either use again or handover to the sponsor for them to reuse.

Wellbeing

Network hosts a 5K run on day 2 of the event for attendees to participate in. Rest areas are also available on the show floors and Mobile Massage will also be onsite to help attendees reduce stress and anxiety. The Network X party is available to all attendees, and so are networking bars and lounges, for attendees to build new connections in a relaxed business environment.

Locally sourced, vegan and vegetarian options will be offered as part of the catering.

Giving back

Network X’s invitation for unconnected.org to become their charity partner has been a powerful catalyst for advancing digital inclusion across the globe. Through this partnership, unconnected.org has raised awareness and driven initiatives that connect rural and underserved communities to the internet. With projects in over 17 countries, unconnected.org works to bridge the digital divide by providing sustainable connectivity solutions, empowering people with access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Why Paris

Since 2004, the city of Paris has been strongly committed to sustainable development goals through its ambitious 'Climate Plan', which has deployed more than 500 measures in various areas: buildings, transport, energy, food, waste, living environment, etc.

In line with the objectives achieved in 2020, the current operational action plan aims to reduce GHG emissions by 50%, to reduce consumption by 35% and to achieve 45% renewable energy by 2030.

By 2050, the challenge is to achieve a carbon-neutral city and be 100% supplied with renewable energy sources.
