Profile

JR Wilson is Chief of Networks and Spectrum for AST SpaceMobile. In this role, JR is responsible for delivering the spectrum, systems, tools, and integration necessary to drive the monetization of AST SpaceMobile’s network.

From 2001 to 2025, JR served in various roles at AT&T. Most recently, he was Vice President of Tower Strategy, Roaming, and In-Building Solutions. He managed AT&T’s tower rents and leases for cell sites and small cells, global roaming contracts and operations, and the In-Building Solutions team.

From 2012 to 2025, JR served as Chairman of the Wireless Broadband Alliance, a driving force behind Passpoint and making Wi-Fi seamless, secure, and interoperable. In 2016, under his leadership, the Alliance established that every June 20th be designated as World Wi-Fi Day to celebrate Wi-Fi’s role in driving affordable mobile broadband, including in underserved communities around the globe. JR currently serves as an Advisor to the Board of the Wireless Broadband Alliance.

JR started his career in Seattle with Arthur Andersen, after graduating from Syracuse University. Before joining AT&T, he spent several years at Teledesic, a startup founded by Craig McCaw and Bill Gates with the vision of providing global, ubiquitous mobile broadband using advanced satellite technology. JR lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife and three children.
