The SCTE is a non-profit organisation with offices worldwide; established in 1945 its mission is to uphold standards industry-wide and to that end provides comprehensive training courses, lectures, events, webinars, podcasts and publications throughout the year. Members are encouraged to participate in order to maximise their very affordable subscription fees. Its flagship offering, Broadband Journal, is a quarterly glossy magazine, also available online that offers insight, thought leadership, technical papers, product reviews, long reads, industry news and debate.

The SCTE® also offers training courses, accreditation and certification for its members, giving them professional standing within the industry. Full Members and Fellows are allowed to use the designations MSCTE and FSCTE after their names. Technicians and student members can use TMSCTE and SMSCTE respectively after their names.
